An American man from Monroe, Washington was arrested after he made the mistake of sending a text message to his former boss, inadvertently revealing his intent to kill his Pinay wife.
42-year-old Jeff Lytle planned to hire a hitman called “Shayne” to deal with his wife Rhoda Mee Funtanilla Lytle, originally from Abra, Philippines.
His instructions to the hitman were to dispose of Rhoda after her shift at a local WalMart. He wanted to make it look like an attempted robbery to throw off the police.
Lytle assured Shayne that he would split his wife’s insurance policy worth $1.5 million with the gun-for-hire once her death was confirmed.
It sounds like a fool-proof plan, right? Lytle quite possibly could’ve gotten away with it, too, if not for one simple mistake.
He sent the incriminating text messages to his former boss instead of the hitman. Naturally, the employer contacted the authorities and Lytle was then promptly arrested.
Guess Lytle was the fool in his plans.
Lytle claimed he had no intention of actually carrying out the hit on his wife, claiming he just needed to "vent" some anger after having an argument with Rhoda. He even alleged that it could have been his daughter that accidentally sent the messages to his boss.
The police didn’t believe his alibi even for a second.
Lytle has since been incarcerated at the Snohomish County jail for two counts of criminal solicitation of first-degree murder.
