Many people get their nails done in beauty salons through pedicure and manicure. These two beauty procedures are very common and are often perceived to be generally safe.
However, she did not expect that such common beauty regimen could lead her to acquiring one of the most feared diseases on the planet, AIDS.
AIDS is acquired through the HIV virus which is usually acquired through sexual interface with infected individuals. It can also be acquired through cuts and blood transmission.
This unnamed woman, 22-years-old, acquired the virus through a cut she sustained while being pedicured and manicured. Her case was detailed in the journal AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses.
Nonetheless, Dr Brian Foley, of the HIV Sequence Database at the Los Alamos National Laboratory said that the case should not make people scared of people with the virus as the risk of people-to-people contact is very low.
What do you think about this story? Did that scare you of going to the salon and getting their nails done?
