It seems like Korean Dramas, or more popularly known as K-Drama, has nearly taken over phone screens and television screens in every Filipino household. Not just younger people, but even the elders grew into watching these dramas because who wouldn’t?
However, a 20-year-old Chinese woman seems to have went too far in patronizing K-Dramas. She was rushed to the hospital after binge-watching her favorite Korean series. The young woman almost went blind, according to reports. She reportedly spent her whole day watching the 16 episodes of “Cheese in the Trap” and two episodes of “Descendants of the Sun” on her tablet.
The woman only took breaks during meals and bed time. While watching, she had her lights in the room turned off with the tablet’s screen light she was solely focused on for many hours, until she suffered a severe headache that she decided to rest. However, the headache didn’t leave her when she woke up and felt a sharp pain in her eyes.
That was when she was rushed to the hospital. The doctors diagnosed her with glaucoma, a disease with damaged eye’s optic nerve. The illness happens when fluid builds up in the front part of the eye. Glaucoma can lead to blindness.
Of course, glaucoma can be caused by a wide variety of factors. K-drama may have only played a small part in her condition.
