It seems like the ‘it Girls’ are now losing their touch after Georgina Wilson posted photos with sister Jessica Wilson, and cousin Martin Cajucom wearing souvenir communist hats at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China.
iananmen Square is where hundreds of civilians were killed while fighting for democracy in 1989. The occurrence was then dubbed as the Tiananmen Square massacre.
The trio faced criticism on social media as most netizens found their photos ‘culturally insensitive.’ Georgina wrote on her caption, “Please forgive the inappropriate merch that we acquired from a vendor at Tiananmen Square.” But the model eventually deleted it.
In one of the photos, Georgina admitted that the three of them did receive “lots of weird looks the whole weekend.”
Following this controversy, another IT Girl is being grilled on social media after a she posted an Instagram moment. Isabelle Daza posted a photo of a statue wearing the communist cap which Georgina and company wore at Tiananmen Square.
Netizens then claimed that Isabelle was finding ways to get attention as she wasn’t with the three girls in Beijing, so she added insult to injury instead. Many commenters accused her and IT Girls as ‘ignorant’, having ‘no substance’, and not worth of everyone’s time.
A video uploaded by the model and actress also resulted into netizen uproar. The clip, from Isabelle’s point of view, showed Ava, her sister, handing her a business card with both hands. What Isabelle did after taking it was crumple the card and throw it in Ava’s face. Obviously, it was only a play act but this deed drew the ire of many social media users.
Handing a business card with two hands is part of the Japanese and Chinese business etiquette. It is a sign of respect and openness to establish a business relationship. But Isabelle’s action seems to have disrespected this practice. Further, she even captioned her IG clip: “What I want to do when people hand me their calling cards like this.”
