Pandas are one of the cutest animals (we think) in the animal kingdom. What most people do not know, however, is that this adorable creature can be dangerous when provoked. A Chinese tourist who tried to wrestle with one came to know the panda's savage side.
A man and his two friends were having a walk around a zoo Jiangxi province in Southeast China. Wanting to impress his female peers, the guy who was in his 20’s went inside a panda’s cage.
The 260lbs panda named Mei Ling then woke up when the tourist got near him. The man thought that he could be friendly with animal through stroking its back. To his horror, Mei Ling got irritated and jumped into his leg. The invader tried to escape, but he failed when the giant animal launched itself on him and he only fell to the ground.
The attacked tourist’s surname was identified to be Chen. The animal wouldn’t let go of its tight grip on the man. It took him a while to detach himself from the disturbed panda. The man’s struggle was caught on surveillance camera.
Pandas may appear calm and passive, but they can pose grave injuries if they decide to use their sharp claws and teeth. Caretakers said that these kinds of incidents can be avoided if tourists follow regulations. They said that enclosures should not be entered for safety reasons.
The tourist was checked after the incident. Fortunately for Chen the only thing damaged was his pants which got ripped a little. He was not hurt when after the giant creature tackled him. Mei Ling was also reported uninjured.
Next time you decide to be friendly with a panda, make sure that you are assisted by someone who knows how to tame them. Though they are considered vegetarians and prefer to eat bamboo, they do consume meat if it is accessible.
