It is not a typical sight to see a dog attending mass when you're in church. It may also be a bit embarrassing to other church goers that a dog might have a better attendance record than most of them combined.
No, this is not the story of a holy dog that might actually be God in disguise. No, the dog doesn’t have any supernatural healing abilities.
There is only one reason, and one reason alone, that the dog has gone to church every day. And it will break your hearts.
So the dog's name is “Loyal Tommy” and you'll soon figure out why. This faithful German Shepherd belonged to an elderly Italian woman named Maria. 57-year-old Maria adopted Tommy when she discovered him abandoned in a field near her residence.
Maria found Loyal Tommy when he was just a puppy. Now, he is 7 years old. That’s a long time in dog years. We can only imagine the bond and friendship these two have created over the years.
We know for sure that it was a deep and powerful bond as it led to Tommy doing this.
Unfortunately, a few months ago, Maria died. Similar to the tale of Hachiko, Loyal Tommy has been waiting for her to come back ever since.
The last place that he saw Maria was in church. This was due to the funeral service that was held for her. The faithful dog has been waiting for her in church ever since.
He goes in as soon as the mass starts and leaves like anybody else when it is done. Perhaps the dog thinks that Maria is somewhere in the crowd and follows them.
Due to Loyal Tommy no longer having an owner, the local community decided to take up the responsibility of feeding Tommy and giving him a shelter. They know that this is what Maria would have wanted. Loyal Tommy deserves all the love that anyone can give!
Although his beloved owner is gone, Tommy gained new friends in the people that have witnessed his undying loyalty. Heartbreaking as the story is, we know that Loyal Tommy will eventually find the peace and love he is seeking.
