Filipinos are considered world-class talents when it comes to singing. Internationally-acclaimed theater actresses Lea Salonga and Rachelle Ann Go continue to wow Broadway audiences with their golden voices.
But here in the country, local celebrities are the Jack-of-all trades: act, dance, and sing. Only in the Philippines!
Here are some artistas who released songs and albums, but were never repeated (hopefully?).
1. Angelu De Leon
Kapuso star Angelu once sang “It Might Be You” with her love team partner for their kilig flick, T.G.I.S The Movie. Check out “Minsan Lang,” another track in the OST of the movie.
2. Rufa Mae Quinto
Comedienne Rufa Mae is known for her “blessed” characters. In her movie, “Super B,” Rufa also crooned the theme song. She also went on to release her album, Rated R, in 2002, which had, of course, rated SPG lyrics.
3. Michael V.
Michael V., or Bitoy, is a comedian and impersonator. He doesn’t have a golden voice but his funny parody of famous songs makes him a genius. Check out his singles and album, The Bubble G Anthology.
4. Rainier Castillo
Actor and dancer Rainier was one of the final four in the talent search, Starstruck. Identified by his hair and killer smile, he released his discography entitled I Love You Babe.
5. Ara Mina
Actress Ara Mina rose to fame with her slew of sensual roles. She released two albums, a self-titled one and “Heavenly,” and a single of the teleserye theme song, Kung Kailangan Mo Ako.
6. Bayani Agbayani
He is a comedian with an impeccable timing, but actor Bayani shattered the airwaves with his novelty songs. Who could forget “Otso Otso” and the Christmas jingle, “Pasko Na!” from his sold-out albums?
7. Vhong Navarro
Former Street Boys member Vhong danced to his own tune of novelty songs. Vhong sang “Totoy Bibo,” “Don Romantico,” and “Ayos Na Ang Buto-buto,” complete with matching dance steps.
8. Rochelle Pangilinan
Former leader and founder of Sexbomb Girls, Rochelle and her gang had us singing to a plate of pasta and dessert. The ditties “Spaghetti Song” and “Halukay Ube” should be sang with their unforgettable choreographies.
9. Willie Revillame
Game show host Willie is a prolific singer and avid user of auto-tune. His song “Beep Beep Beep Ang Sabi ng Jeep” is making a comeback for its tongue twister lyric of “doobi doobi dap dap (3x), doobi doobi dip dip, du dap da dap.”
10. Ai-ai Delas Alas
Comedienne Ai-ai was known for her Tanging Ina movies, and also sang the movie’s theme song. She released albums and singles laced with innuendos.
11. Manny Pacquiao
People’s Champ Pacman hit us right in the feels with his song “Para Sa’yo Ang Laban Na’to.” His album Laban Nating Lahat Ito had songs with common theme of fighting and never-giving-up attitude.
12. Ryan Bang
We’re all about diversity so Ryan is in this list. He is Korean and became famous as a housemate in Pinoy Big Brother. His single “Shopping” is reminiscent of Psy’s style, complete with Korean and English lyrics.
13. Elmo Magalona
Son of the late Francis M, actor Elmo tried to make it on his own. His self-titled album of slow songs may or may not be easy on the ears.
14. Maja Salvador
Maja is the undisputed queen of the dance floor. No doubt, she’s also a great actress based on her impressive credentials. She also released her own albums, but you be the judge when she sings.
15. Maymay Entrata
PBB winner Maymay charmed the viewers with her goofy antics and admittedly lovable personality. Her self-titled album has songs which best describe her: Baliw, Toinks, Pangarap, and Kabaduyan.
16. Maine Mendoza
Kapuso star Maine was hailed as the Dubsmash queen with her viral videos. Funny and over-the-top, she is paired with the dashing Alden Richards. Her single Imagine You and Me had AlDub fans wanting for more.
17. Judy Ann Santos
Iconic Judy Ann remains the undisputed drama actress of our generation. She isn’t known for her singing skills but she went on to release three albums during her career.
18. Enchong Dee
Model and actor Enchong is a well-loved chinito in the Kapamilya network. To make him more holistic, he had two albums in his belt: Enchong Dee and EDM (Enchong Dee Moves).
19. Marian Rivera
Dubbed as one of the showbiz royalties for her beauty and fame, Marian had it all. Except for one thing: a golden voice. But that didn’t stop Marimar from releasing auto-tuned dance albums. Sabay-Sabay Tayo, anyone?
20. Daniel Padilla
“Nasa iyo na ang lahat” singer Daniel Padilla really had it all: hit shows and best-selling albums. He only lacks one thing, though: talent.
21. Vilma Santos
Celebrity-politician Vilma is a legend in her own right. She was given the Urian Lifetime Achievement Award for her acting accomplishments. But what is an artista without an album, right? Vilma released her self-titled album as a 40th anniversary collection.
22. Xian Lim
Another chinito actor who stole the hearts of his fans, Xian also knows how to play the piano. But, does it automatically mean he’s a good singer? His fans seem to think so after he successfully released three albums.
23. Kim Chiu
The Chinita Princess of local cinema, Kim is an actress who began as a contestant in the reality show PBB. She also sings, with two discographies to her name. “Ikaw na ba si Mr. Right” had us wishing she would sing it right.
24. Bea Alonzo
Bea will forever be known as Basha, the one who broke Popoy’s heart in One More Chance. She is a good actress in her shows, but she broke our hearts with her album, The Real Me.
25. Enrique Gil
The other half of the phenomenal tandem LizQuen, Enrique had girls swooning. But some, would rather listen to his dance album, King of the Gil.
