For most celebrities in the showbiz industry having an onscreen partner is considered as a perk. Aside from the fact that it boosts the popularity of both artists it also allows them to gain a large number of fans. However, just like any other celebrity in the industry these tandems have also their own fair share of controversies and a number of bashers on social media. Veteran actress Angelu De Leon knows these pros and cons all too well when she was paired with Bobby Andrews back in the 90’s.
In an interview with PUSH, Angelu De Leon shared her insights about the sad reality that most showbiz love teams are experiencing presently. Recounting her early years in the industry as a part of a loveteam tandem, Angelu said that she is grateful that she had great encounters with their fans before social media became the norm.
She was quoted as to saying,
“I’m very grateful. We love our fans but we’re very grateful we didn’t grow up in a world where you’re just a text away, you’re just a caption away, you’re just a reply away, you’re just a comment away. Because at the end of the day, it’s a difficult time.”
The actress also shared her personal insights about the love teams of the present generation who are repeatedly bashed on social media. She mentioned that she admires the tandem of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla because both artists know how to deal with their haters.
“I sometimes feel sad for yung mga sina Kathniel when I read comments kasi sometimes parang tagos sa buto yung mga bashing, minsan iniisip ko how can people be so rude because they can hide [under] a different name and a different profile picture? How can someone like that be so angry sometimes? I admire the artist who doesn’t make patol kasi at the end of the day it’s really not your problem, it’s their problem,” she said.
The actress could not help but be sad about the insensitivity and close-mindedness of many netizens on social media. Thus, she hopes that every celebrity would not take every negative comment being thrown by detractors personally.
“Pero at the end of the day, alam naman namin na you can’t please everybody so kumbaga patapangan din minsan ng sikmura. Kaya minsan kahit na gusto mong i-enjoy ang social media, sometimes it really gets bothering and why would you want to put those things in your head pa?”
She also reminisced about the time when only the members of the press have the guts to criticize them.
“…it’s very different kasi dati ang namba-bash lang sa amin ay press. Press people lang eh. So parang kahit papaano contained yung bashing sa amin,” she shared.
